A must-see for lovers of American folk art, Cogswell’s Grant was the summer home of renowned collectors Bertram K. and Nina Fletcher Little. The colonial-era farmhouse is a rich backdrop for their celebrated collection, assembled over nearly sixty years. Though known for their research, the Littles decorated with an eye for visual delight rather than historical accuracy. Their home is rich in atmosphere and full of strong, even quirky character.

The Annisquam Historical Society (AHS) collects, preserves and exhibits artifacts and data reflecting the history and traditions of the village of Annisquam and its community. The AHS collection is housed in the old Firehouse, Deluge 8, located near the village center.
While the AHS Firehouse will not be open to the public this fall and winter, individuals who are interested in researching topics or persons related to the history of Annisquam can request an appointment by email.
All those who request appointments for research in the Firehouse must be vaccinated for Covid-19. We encourage you to look in our Online Resources for articles, videos and historic documents that tell the history of Annisquam, its people, and its traditions.
Beauport, the Sleeper-McCann House, a National Historic Landmark, was the summer home of one of America’s first professional interior designers, Henry Davis Sleeper. Perched on a rock ledge overlooking Gloucester Harbor, Beauport was Sleeper’s retreat, backdrop for entertaining, and professional showcase, and an inspiration to all who visited.
